Let's open the A/B Test Tool to get started
What exactly is an A/B Test?
An A/B test on YouTube is a way to compare different versions of thumbnails to see which one gets more clicks. YouTube creators can test multiple designs by showing each one to a portion of their audience and measuring which one performs best. This helps you figure out which thumbnail grabs the most attention and is driving the most clicks. The winning thumbnail gets displayed.
Browsing A/B Tests
The A/B Tests tool is broken up into the following seven columns:
- Current Thumbnails - The winning thumbnail that is being displayed
- A/B test thumbnails - The 2 other thumbnails that were included in the test
- Video title - The title of the video
- Test # - The number of tests performed
- Views - The number of views the video has
- Test Date - The date of the test
- Channel - Channel name that performed the A/B test
Customizing Your Results
Search bar
- Enter any a channel name, video URL, keywords, or niches. Your results will closely match what's being searched, so be specific!
Filter & Sort
- Use Sort by to get your results sorted by either A/B test count, view count of upload date. You can even select a specific category! Toggle the views, channel size, and test count to fit any criteria you're looking for. Its that easy! The upload date option is great for finding the latest A/B test that are making waves.
View More Stats
After selecting an A/B test, this window will show a larger version of the thumbnail for deeper analysis. Below the thumbnails there will be a views chart highlighting when the A/B test was performed and what impact the A/B test had on views. Scrolling down just a bit further will reveal other further A/B tests completed by that same channel!
Deeper Analysis
If you’d like to see more data on the video that the A/B test was conducted on, simply click on “open video details” up top. This will reveal more in depth video stats in about the video and even allow you to download the thumbnail!
Save your favorite A/B tests
Found a couple of A/B tests you’d like to study? No problem! Save your A/B tests to your collections folder by clicking on the Save to collections button
after opening up the A/B test . After clicking the save button simply add it to an existing collection or create a new collection folder for your newly found A/B test. It's that simple!
